Kia fleet keeps Australian Open on the move

For the 11th year in a row, Kia Motors unwavering support of the Australian Open tennis has continued with the delivery of nearly 100 specially-equipped courtesy vehicles to keep the tournaments players, officials and guests on the move.

In handing over the Kia Courtesy Fleet to Tennis Australias CEO Steve Wood, KMAu President and CEO Chongwoo Kim confirmed Kias ongoing support for tennis in Australia.

For more than a decade Kia has been a proud sponsor of the Australian Open, one of the worlds great sporting events, and that commitment has not wavered, Mr Kim said in Melbourne today. However, Kias commitment to tennis runs much deeper than just the elite level.

Through the Kia Amateur Australian Open there is an annual opportunity for a young player to share in the excitement of the main event playing against qualifiers from 15 other countries in the second week of the Australian Open.

In accepting the courtesy fleet, Steve Wood, CEO of Tennis Australia, said: The Australian Open is the biggest sporting event in the world in January, and Im pleased to again accept the fleet of Kia vehicles which will effectively keep the tournament moving over the next few weeks.

The majority of the courtesy fleet _ 71 vehicles _ are Australias favourite people-mover, the multi-award winning Kia Grand Carnival which can move up to eight people in comfort.

The Kia courtesy fleet will be driven by 215 volunteer drivers who expect to clock up more than 400,000 kilometres in thousands of journeys during the 2012 Australian Open.

 

Nissan Launches Global App for iPad

YOKOHAMA, Japan (October 20, 2011) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has launched the Nissan Global App, an iPad application that offers news distributed by Nissan from around the world, information about the history of Nissan, and content about its advanced technologies. The application can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store.

About the Nissan Global App The Latest News section delivers news from the Nissan Global Site, other Nissan sites around the world, and from social media channels using videos and text. All this information is consolidated into a single screen for easy access.

The Map section provides users with direct access to information being distributed by Nissan from a given country in the world simply by selecting that country from the map screen.

The Explorer function displays the topics that are being discussed among Nissan customers. When they select items of interest to them, users will then have relevant items automatically displayed one after the other, making it possible to quickly and effectively get access to the latest information about Nissan.

Going forward, Nissan will continue to focus on emerging communication technologies and distribute information that appeals to customers, and prospective customers, in order to raise awareness and interest in Nissan Motors. The Nissan Global App for the iPad is a platform on which visitors can explore many of the little-known details of what Nissan is all about. In addition, an iPhone version of this application is under development.

Hyundai i40 Lands Top German Design Award

The Hyundai i40 has received the prestigious Golden Award at this years EuroCarBody Conference, held in Germany, beating nine of Europes and Japans largest automakers to the prize.

Considered the highest accolade in the industry, Hyundai collected the top prize having never previously entered the contest.

Hosted by Automotive Circle International, an organization consisting of top automotive suppliers and manufacturers, the EuroCarBody awards were judged by over 500 delegates from across the world. .

The judges praised the advanced engineering and effective use of materials, as well as the production efficiency of the i40, which scored 37.98 out of a maximum 50 points. The closest competitor and second-placed car, the Audi A6, scored 35.86, with the Mercedes B-Class in third place achieving 34.66.

The all-new i40 was designed and engineered in Europe, specifically for the European market. Hyundais use of high-strength steel and improved joins in the structure means the i40s lightweight body has high energy absorption efficiency which provides increased safety to occupants in the event of an accident; characteristics recognised by the judging panel.

i40 Tourer recently achieved a maximum 5* ANCAP safety rating and was rated in the lowest insurance grouping for a mid-segment car in the UK, thanks to its innovative body structure.

Around View camera and fuel-sipping diesel for Oz-bound 2012 Nissan Dualis

Australian buyers of Nissans popular Dualis crossover will get the option of an economical yet powerful new 1.6-litre diesel engine in the second half of next year, plus an Around View Monitor camera system usually exclusive to high-end European vehicles.

While it is expected locally-delivered diesels will carry a price premium, the new diesel uses just 4.5 litres of diesel per 100 kilometres and offers improved levels of noise and refinement. In addition, the new engine reaches maximum torque 250rpm sooner than the unit it replaces at 1750rpm, enabling quicker in-gear acceleration, and emits only 129 grams of CO2 per kilometre, with the CO2 figure dropping to 119g/km if optional idle-stop technology is fitted.
